After some pulls and one lost i got this one! Sadly its injured by a seal. The water was too high yesterday and we only fished in the evening. We lost two and was really expectant this morning. David got one after 20 min and 30 min later i got one too! The water is falling now and the evening and tomorrow will be exciting! Elveguiden #Springer #atlanticsalmonfishing #catchandrelease

Yesterday we couldn’t fish because the river was too high and coloured. But this morning was better. We heard about a seal in the beat downstream us so maybe it was the seal that chase the springers up to us? One day left.Thank you The Contented Vine for celebration-whisky

Norway’s salmon fishing history is decorated with the capture of 40, 50 and 60 pounds plus fish. And yet, the capture of these fish is becoming increasingly rare.
These really huge salmon are often multiple spawners and during an interview with I conducted with Eva Thorstad from NINA a few years ago, she talked about😮 three, four and even five time spawners on Gaula🤯
The major problem is that these fish have virtually no chance of spawning more than twice.
We kill around 35-40 percent of our salmon on Gaula every year. If you are a first time spawner, you stand a 40% chance of being harvested. If you make it, by the time you come back you face another 40% chance of being ‘harvested.’ Every time you return to the river you run the gauntlet. The chances of you spawning three times are very small.
So if, by some miracle, you are a salmon capable of multi-spawning, statistically you have virtually no chance of fufilling your destiny.
It’s time that we addressed this anomaly in our regulations and did everything that we can to protect our precious giant fish.
As an angler, I want to be able to dream about catching huge fish and I think that we all dream of hooking a monster. So let’s stop shooting ourselves in the foot and protect our big salmon, especially the females.
